Set in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Precious tells the story of a young woman recounting her experience of being in a failed marriage due to the negative influences of societal pressures. As Precious is riding in the passenger seat of her husband’s car, she recalls the days of her childhood freedoms. Growing up, she dreamt of emulating the love she saw in her parents and decided she wanted a traditional pre-arranged marriage. Her husband soon asks Precious, who is veiled except for her face, to start wearing the Niqab (face-veil) after his friends emasculate him for not being in control of his wife enough. His obsession with living up to these chauvinistic ideals spirals out of control as he exercises his authority over her in every way imaginable, ultimately ending in violence. As Precious finds herself entrapped with the monster of a man that he has become, she has a moment of clarity and realizes the grave danger that she is in if she is to remain in the relationship.
